A VERY SPECIAL FAMILY BEACH-FRONT HOME IN THE BAHAMAS

Provender is a simple “get-away-from-it-all” beach retreat perched above the white sands of the private Windermere Island which is connected by a bridge to Eleuthera Island, Bahamas. Privacy and seclusion are guaranteed, it is rare to see another person’s footprints in the 2 mile sandy beach in front of the house. (Provender was the secret hideaway where Prince Charles and Lady Diana spent part of their honeymoon in 1981). 

The airy living room at the heart of the house has a pretty Italian tiled floor and “picture window” sliding doors opening wide onto balconies and sun porches, bringing the outside in. No better beach and ocean view is to be found anywhere in the Bahamas. Don’t miss the dawns! The sun porch at the back is a perfect place to barbecue your catch of the day! (Gas barbecue provided.) Steps lead down directly from the house to the beach. The five bedrooms can accommodate nine people in two king bedrooms, two king/twin rooms, and one single-bed room. All bedrooms have a en-suite bath/shower room and all (except the single bedroom) have views of the beach. The sound of the sea will lull you to sleep at night. Ceiling fans and sea breezes ensure the air conditioners in every room are rarely needed. The kitchen and laundry are fully equipped. 

There is something for everyone. Provender comes equipped with two kayaks, two paddle boards, and six bicycles. Windermere is a bird watching and bone fishing destination and of course there is no better snorkelling or scuba diving than the reefs surrounding the island. The Windermere Club (5 minutes walk away) has tennis courts, paddle ball, a small gym and heated swimming pool, (as well as a bar and restaurant in the season). Club membership is included with the rental. Four hours of housekeeping service every day (except Saturday) is included. Local style cooks/chefs can be hired separately. It is sometimes possible to source a local yoga teacher or beauty therapist. Please ensure you book any extra housekeeping or other services you may require well in advance. 

The adjacent Harbour Island (ninety minutes by car and water taxi), popular with film and rock stars, is famed for its pretty colonial-style buildings – well worth a day’s visit. There are plenty of other activities, restaurants and bars all over beautiful Eleuthera.
